February is Black History Month!

In Class students were given a writing prompt and were to reflect on about the given question. Here are their responses!

Question: Why do we celebrate Black History Month?

I think celebrating black history month is really important. We celebrate it by showing our freedom. Back then African Americans did not have the same rights as everyone else. Therefore, I think celebrating it today is wonderful. If things would not have changed, the world would still be separated. By celebrating black history it shows respect for everyone who fought for what they believed in.

We celebrate Black History Month because of all the people who sacrificed and fought for American Americans to have equal rights. We celebrate this month to give thanks and remember all those that have shaped our future like: Dr.King, Rosa Parks, and Nelson Mandela. All these people have changed our history and future by standing up and saying something.

The reason we celebrate black history month is to remind us that we all have equal rights. Even if your skin color is different you still are an equal. One person that stood up for equality was Martin Luther King and he made a change for African Americans. Today people are treated equal and this month honors equality for all.
