Classroom Preambles

Last week in class the students close read the introduction to the U.S. Constitution, the Preamble. In small groups, students created classroom Preambles to demonstrate understanding. Below are a few examples:

We the students of room 217 (period 9), will accomplish any work the teacher assigns. Also, we will learn as much as we can and succeed in academics. Lastly, we will help others in need, treat each other fairly, and promote anti-bullying.

Michael Jozwiak, Jennifer Baisa, Samer Qteish, Ahmad Omar

We the students of room 217, period 6 will go on a journey of learning and after we return will be rewarded with knowledge. We shall treat everybody with respect and kindness. We will cooperate and work together in unison. We shall establish a better learning community for every student in class. We will respect each other’s feelings and be the best class we can be.

Tom Konicki, Michelle Urbina, Dominic Thurman, Alicia Delgado

We the students of 217, period 8 pledge to be respectful to our teachers and classmates. We will work together as a team to achieve our goals and maintain good grades. Together we can progress, study hard, and do well on tests. It’s time to open our set new goals. Our future is bright and we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.

Students create their own blog posts!

Last week, students were focused on creating their own blog posts coinciding with our central text, “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. Students enjoyed this project because it is something that they see on a daily basis. Students need to answer the following questions and describe the importance of human rights with the questions in mind.

 1) Does the world around us have to take care of us?
 2) Are we responsible for making the world a better place?

Here are a few examples from the students!

 “The World Is Our Home”

I feel that human rights are pretty much a foundation of justice, peace, and standards of life. They promote better standards of life. They do that by making sure everyone has the equal right to do something or be treated positively. What if everyone judged each other and did not treat each other equally? Think about it. No one would be equal and there would be segregation and mistreatment everywhere. Some of those rights include:
• Right of education
 • Traveling as you wish
• Owning property and possessions
 • Immigration
 • Equal treatment
 • Freedom and safety

“The Happiness Ban”

If they are happy why are we upset? Why is same-sex marriage treated unfairly? These are questions that are going through people’s minds throughout the world! People should be treated equally because we are all humans and deserve the same respect we give to others. But in some cases others do not believe that, just because they are different they get treated unreasonably. They are just like us, but have different dating preferences. Same sex marriage should not be treated any differently than regular marriage. According to the central text everyone is free and should be always treated the same way. We all deserve equality and the same rights as everyone else.

“Do you have rights or not”

If you go outside you will see many sad things. You will notice that many people throw sneers at each other for being different. As a teenager I have to wonder on a daily basis if we are responsible for making the world a better place. The world is in a way like school, people are constantly breaking the rules when it comes to people and rights. If everyone could come to an understanding that everyone deserves to have equal rights. We have learned through the Human Rights text that respect is above all else.

“The Rights of a Human Being”

The world does not take care of you. You have the right to live as you choose. The world is just a place we live in and it can’t take of you. We as humans are responsible for making the world a better place. Everyday someone loses their rights as a human being. People die from murders, and possessions get stolen. The world has been damaged by countless people who do not care about anyone and their rights. The human rights become implemented into this because people need standards of how to live. With enough help we can prevent tragedies and enforce the human rights to the fullest.

Philly Tech Week

In class we viewed a quick video about the Tetris Skyscraper. With it being Philly Tech Week, Dr. Frank Lee created a two-sided game via the Cira Centre in downtown Philadelphia. This correlates with our “Careers in Technology” aspect of class. This is a fun and innovative way to show off your skills and display your hard work. This Gameboy building has won the world’s biggest game of Tetris ever from the Guinness Worlds Records.
